A pre-employment functional assessment is an objective, standardised method of gathering relevant data on an individual’s ability to perform in the workplace. At Caboolture Physical Therapy Centre your therapist will take you through a series of functional testing to measure your physical capabilities to perform certain tasks which may be required of you in your relevant job role.
Why might I need a pre-employment functional assessment?
If you are applying for a job or are employed in a labour intensive position, you may be required to undertake a functional assessment to ensure that you are physically and medically fit to meet the requirements of your role. Your potential employer will inform you if you require a pre-employment functional.
What can I expect and what is involved in a pre-employment functional assessment?
During your assessment we will commonly complete a series of tests to measure things like; strength, movement and flexibility, as well as lifting and carrying technique through a variety of different weight ranges (don’t worry your therapist will explain everything and show you correct technique throughout the testing process). We may also be required to measure your baseline fitness through a step test.
What should I wear and how long will it take?
Ensure you wear comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes (ideally trainers) to your appointment. Your assessment will usually take anywhere from an hour to 1.5 hours to complete.
